I'm hoping that those who are able will donate and/or volunteer. We are in crisis mode. I have heard from so many on the frontlines of this issue that they can't keep up with the demand. Additionally, there are so many people who are having to rely on these services who have never had to before. It seems we are moving into the widespread hardship phase.

Going Out of Town is an Opportunity!

This year has been overwhelming and my schedule has been crazy. It caught up with me lately so I've taken a couple of breaks. During the last one, Charlie Kirk was shot. Last week, I took a quick break again and the East Wing of the White House was torn down. I think I'll stay home for a bit.

However, going out of town gave me a chance to send a few postcards to representatives in areas where I don't live. The postal mark will make it appear as if I'm a constituent in their district.

FUNNY TIP FOR CONTACTING REPS ONLINE:

ALSO, I came across an interesting tip a few days ago... If you want to use a politician's dot gov site to send a message, chances are, they might only want to hear from folks in their district. They will likely ask for your zip code (often all 9 digits are required) and possibly an address. If they do, find an address for some place within their district and use it.

What a fake.

For instance, maybe you'd like to let Mike Johnson what you think about him keeping the House of Reps on a paid vacation while the shutdown continues, or how disgusting it is that he won't swear in Representative Elect, Adelita Grijalva, or how his stupid bill will cause so much harm to families who will no longer be able to afford healthcare, or maybe you just want to tell him to release those Epstein files and stop protecting pedos.

In Mike Johnson's district, the address for a local sewage treatment plant is:

On Mike's gov page, they only ask for a full zip code (all 9 digits). The sewage plant address won't be necessary for Mike, but you can look up a funny address in the district of other reps if their site requires more than a 5 digit zip.

I am fully aware this is a bit of silliness (that just happens to work), but in the midst of so many serious issues, humor is helpful. Experts on tyranny almost always talk about the importance of finding joy amidst the chaos. The Portland frog is a good example.

Fight the Protest Propaganda, Part 3 - Antifa

ANTIFA is NOT a group or organization. There is no antifa leader. No funding by George Soros.

"Antifa" is an abbreviated way of saying anti-fascist. An anti-fascist is someone who is against fascism. If you enjoy freedom and rights and think it's something everyone should enjoy along with you, then you can't be for fascism, therefore, you are Antifa.

If you are NOT antifa, then you are a fascist. You are for fascism. Some people don't really know what fascism is. Here's one definition. Feel free to look up others. I looked it up from multiple sources and they all said about the same thing.

What is fascism?

"In many ways, fascist regimes begin as revolutionary. They advocate for the overthrow of existing systems of government and the persecution of political enemies. However, such regimes are also highly conservative in their championing of traditional values.

And although fascist leaders typically claim to support the everyman, in reality, their regimes often align with powerful business interests." - Council on Foreign Relations

Are Antifa all Democrats? No! Anyone, regardless of party, who does not want to live under fascist rule is Antifa.

Who was, is, or might be a fascist? As noted in the definition above, Benito Mussolini was a fascist. Adolf Hitler was also a fascist. So was Francisco Franco. Many say America is in the midst of a fascist takeover. History shows that fascism is not a good thing and never ends well. The world is watching.

Don't forget to sign up for this! The ACLU will be conducting a training session this Wednesday, October 15, 2025 7:00 PM over ZOOM. You need to sign up prior to the event. The more people that learn about de-escalation and safety, the better. They will have some good information even if you cannot be at the protest. The No-Kings protest is meant to be a heartfelt, non-violent statement to our country that we believe in the rule of law and are not fans of fascism. The protests tend to be quite joyful as well knowing that like-minded people are working together for the sake of our country and ALL the people who live here.

Mike Johnson and some other Republican are up to no good this week. Many offering opinions say it's about inciting violence, deflecting blame for the shutdown, convincing the MAGA base that protesters hate America, and/or helping trump to invoke the Insurrection Act. See previous post .

Johnson is calling the No Kings Day protest a "Hate America Rally". It has been noted that none of them are calling it by the real name. Senator Roger Marshall says it is a paid protest by George Soros. He thinks the National Guard will be needed. They are even saying that Dems have a plan to keep the government shut down until after the protests in order to keep their base happy (rather than the Healthcare stand Democrats have taken a stand on). Mike Johnson is now calling No Kings a "hate America rally"

TRUMP declared a number of liberal groups terrorists...

"The Trump administration plans to deploy America's counter-terrorism apparatus - including the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department - as well as the Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department against certain left-wing groups it accuses of funding and organizing political violence, the officials said."

The list includes Soros' Open Society Foundations; ActBlue, the funding arm of the Democratic Party; Indivisible, a grassroots coalition opposed to Trump policies and the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, a Los Angeles-based group. It has been suggested that one goal was to bankrupt these groups by tying them up in litigation.

No Kings - Freedom - Timothy Snyder

"They've assembled for themselves some message discipline. They're not going to use the words no kings because using those words would make it clear that that these rallies are about what America has always supposed to be. It's always supposed to have been against kings, against tyranny, against unfreedom. And it is wrong to lie. It's wrong for the Speaker of the House of Representatives to lie. It's wrong to come up with a coordinated campaign to lie. It's a violation of the Ninth Commandment, but it's also just simple indecency. "

This comment from that post stood out - "Thank you for pointing out that the self-described Christian Speaker of the House Mike Johnson routinely violates the 9th commandment against bearing false witness. Rather than a faithful witness, he demonstrates a false witness every day. He has silenced the House in the midst of a government shutdown, all the while lying about the reasons for that as well as the motives of those of us who oppose him. He should be called the Deceiver of the House. We must be more disciplined in our protest, speaking truth to power, in this case, to powerful people who seem unacquainted with truth."

Note: Timothy Snyder is a professor with expertise in authoritarianism. His book, ON TYRANNY, is one of my favorites. I highly recommend it. It's an easy read with concrete suggestions.

Merck and GlaxoSmithKline - MMR Vaccine

Jim O’Neill, the deputy secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the acting director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), called on Monday for new vaccines to replace the current MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) shots.

Thoughts:

The "chilling effect" continues as more and more corporations, companies, media, educational institutions, law firms and more give in to expectations without much of a struggle. The very things that protect us are chipped away a bit here and a bit there and this country is becoming unrecognizable. We must push back on repeat. If businesses only feel the pressure from one side, they have little reason to stand up on our behalf. They must hear from "we the people". Keep sending those postcards and/or calling!!!

Apple and Google Remove Ice Tracking Apps

IceBlock is an app that lets users post sightings of ICE officers on a crowd-sourced map. The government has complained about it since it launched in April of this year. "Downloads of apps like ICEBlock have surged since Trump took office for his second term earlier this year. Aaron [the developer] said he launched the app in April as a way to help immigrant communities protect themselves from surprise raids or potential harassment. It had more than 1 million users, he said." (AP). The app only works if somebody else is reporting ICE activity within a 5-mile radius of another iPhone user.

On Thursday, Oct 2, Apple complied with a DOJ demand to remove the app from its App Store and removed a few other ICE tracking apps while they were at it. Pam Bondi is taking credit for it.

Since the app never had an Android version, it was not on Google's Play Store. However, that same day, Google removed other ICE tracking apps. as well, even though they said they had not been contacted by the DOJ. They apparently obeyed in advance.

A majority of Apple's iPhones are manufactured in China, making the company particularly at risk to tariff policies. The White House has floated potential taxes on imports of chips included in devices that would hit the company's substantial imports from China and other countries. In other words, Apple has a vested interest in complying with the trump administration, especially since this administration has demonstrated over and over just how vindictive they can be. In August, Tim Cook, Apple CEO gave trump a 24-karat gold plaque, "a move that has come to symbolize Silicon Valley's deference to the president".

"I think many large organizations are trying to keep their metaphorical heads down and act cautiously, even when the government is acting improperly or even unconstitutionally," said Gautam Hans, a law professor at Cornell University, who believes Apple would have a jawboning case but does not expect the company to pursue it. "Compliance will only incentivize further government demands."

Kate Ruane, Director of the Center for Democracy and Technology's Free Expression Project, said Apple's move should also be viewed as the government's heavy hand muzzling free expression. "When companies agree to the administration's demands in order to achieve some other goal, whether it be avoiding tariffs or getting merger approval, they send a message to others that it's ok to do the same,"Ruane said. "What's worse, they erode the promise of the First Amendment for all of us at the same time."

Other Options

If someone has already downloaded ICEBlock to their iPhone, it will continue to work there, but it will be impossible for the app to be updated.

Also, popular navigation apps like Waze, Google Maps and Apple’s own Maps app, allows users to report ICY CONDITIONS, which people understand is a warning.

Sherman Austin founded Stop ICE Raids Alert Network in February. Also known as StopICE.Net, Austin’s platform uses crowdsourcing, but allows its users to track ICE activity online or through text alerts, without the need to download a separate app. Austin says the platform has reached more than 500,000 subscribers as of Friday. --- Last month, the platform said it learned that the Department of Homeland Security has subpoenaed Meta for data on StopICE.Net’s Instagram account.

The trump administration applies pressure, but the public has power, too. Both of these companies have products that they like to sell us. They need to be reminded that we have other options!!!

Will the next phone I buy be an iPhone? I already dropped Apple TV. Will I ever give it another go? Will my next laptop be made by Apple? I am liking Apple policies less and less and as much as I like my devices, I am definitely willing to give them up when I make my next purchase. &^%$#@!

As for Google, I have been steadily weaning them from my life. After a great deal of research, I decided on Proton Mail. It's based in Switzerland and offers end-to-end encryption, ensuring that only the sender and recipient can read the messages. It was launched in 2014 and is known for prioritizing user privacy and data security. Google is no longer my default search engine. I did lots of research on that as well. First, I read articles about the pros and cons of different search engines, then I selected the most promising ones and tested them out in side by side searches for a while. I ended up with DuckDuckGo as the default, because of the choices in the Apple settings, it was the least offensive. Its results often mimic the Google results. It leans a tad right as well. But usually, when I do a search I go to SwissCows. I have it bookmarked in my FAVORITES.

Mike Johnson - The Shutdown

I have been spending the past week continuing to write and call different politicians regarding the shutdown. All the while I kept seeing Mike Johnson pop up in interviews blaming the Democrats for everything he can think of. I've also seen his name pop up in a few seedy stories, but I'm not touching that. Anyway, it's been a bit since I've contacted Mike Johnson and seeing how he seems to be getting a bit worn down over all the blame heading his way, it seems like a perfect time to keep up that pressure.

Also, while you are contacting him about the shutdown, maybe add this - "Leave a message telling him to swear in Adelita Grijalva if he is not scared of that 218th signature." This was taken from a post of one of my wonderful friends.

Without even researching, there are so many points that come to mind. I just have to decide which ones to focus on in my postcard. Maybe I'll even write a number of postcards and space out sending them. Here are a few things I came up with:

Why is he refusing to even meet with the Dems to negotiate?
Why is he twisting what the Dems have in their proposal about immigrants?
Is someone twisting his arm? If so is it blackmail?
Are Republicans hoping there will be more government worker firings?
Are Republicans trying to crash the economy to make people more desperate?
What is in the Epstein files that has Republicans losing their minds over trying to keep it buried?
Does he believe in the Constitution?
Is the whole Christianity thing just a pose because so many things he is doing, especially against immigrants, goes against what is in the Bible?
Is his priority helping trump or helping the American people?

WHO WILL BE HURT BY THE SHUTDOWN?

Another point I will probably focus on in one postcard is the workers who don't get paid during and shutdown - especially the ones that DON'T GET REIMBURSED. For this topic, I needed to do some research.

Some Federal workers are considered essential and still have to report to work. They will EVENTUALLY get paid - AFTER the shutdown ends. Non-Essential federal workers are furloughed and they, too will get paid after the shutdown ends.

Who will be MOST harmed: Government Contractors: The Forgotten Victims

The contractor workforce is enormous and diverse. Large defense contractors employ hundreds of thousands of workers on government projects. Small businesses provide everything from janitorial services to specialized consulting. Tech companies maintain government computer systems. Construction companies build federal facilities. Also, Federal courts run on filing fees and reserves for a few weeks. This means judges and essential workers will get paid until the well runs dry. After that, who gets paid during shutdown turns into ‘nobody’.

NOTE that trump proudly announced that work will continue on his ballroom even though they are tied to government contracts. THIS DESERVES A POSTCARD OR CALL!

PREVIOUS SHUTDOWNS

The federal government has experienced 22 funding gaps since 1976, including the current one. Most of the previous shutdowns lasted between one and eight days. The LONGEST shutdown in the U.S., in began in 2018 (while trump was president) and lasted for 35 days. The topic at issue was the border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.
