Apparently, DJT needs a larger room to accommodate all the low life’s he associates with so he's building a 90,000-square-foot state ballroom with seating for 650. He wants it completed “long before” the end of his term in 2029.
I read different accounts as to where it would be placed. Supposedly, it will be “substantially separated from” the White House’s East Wing. Karoline Leavitt confirmed that “nothing will be torn down”. She added that renovations and upgrades will also be made to the East Wing. However, most of the articles I read said the ballroom will REPLACE the East Wing. So, who to believe? The folks who lie every time they open their mouths? It's so hard to decide.
The new ballroom will be nearly twice the size of the existing White House, which is 55,000 square feet. The White House will be overpowered. Is that a metaphor for what is happening to our republic?
There are lots of questions about who will be paying for the $200 million project. "White House officials said "the president" and “other patriot donors” would pay for the renovations but declined to give details." DJT doesn't have a good reputation when it comes to paying debts. If he drops the ball, or gets run out of office, who will assume those expenses? And don't even get me started on how inappropriate this is when at the same time he's cutting our healthcare and programs that literally save lives.
The lack of transparency on the funding is “completely outrageous.” according to Kathleen Clark, a law professor at Washington University in St. Louis who specializes in government ethics. She questioned whether the donors were seeking “ways to get in good with Trump.”
"Dictator Chic" - What a fitting description for DJT's gaudy style! I saw this term used in numerous articles. The interior will be very Mar-a-Lago-ish - coffered ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and with enough gold to let everyone know it was meant to please someone who is all show and no class. Meanwhile, the exterior will be “almost identical” to the neoclassical architecture of the White House, per a statement from the White House press office. I've seen the renderings and that wasn't my take.
Many presidents have made changes at the White House during their terms. Gerald Ford even had a swimming pool installed using private donations. But Trump’s changes — "an expansion which will significantly alter the way the White House looks and functions, and with an aesthetic of over-the-top details more commonly known as tacky — won’t just be like leaving his stamp, it will be like rebranding the People’s House as yet another DJT estate." The ballroom structure will be the first structural change to executive residence since the addition of the Truman balcony in 1948.
