Rebel Alliance State Birds

This is not my normal type of post.  There's no one to write or call.  But it's a form of resistance that you may want to take part in.

State Bird Rebel Alliance Logos: A Grassroots Symbol of Resistance

Background:

The Rebel Alliance-inspired symbols, particularly the starbird logo, represent freedom, rebellion, and hope against the Galactic Empire. This emblem has evolved from its origins as graffiti by Mandalorian artist Sabine Wren into a widely recognized symbol of resistance in the Star Wars universe.

January 2026:

"People have started using their state birds as Rebel Alliance–inspired symbols (from Star Wars) to say, “this is where I am, and I’m not okay with what’s happening.” It’s simple, it’s clear, and I think it would be powerful to see these everywhere."

The trend began this month in Minnesota, but is now being using in every state. It combines state identity with anti-authoritarian symbolism to protest federal immigration enforcement operations, and is becoming what has become one of the most visible symbols of political resistance in contemporary America.

Rebel Alliance State Birds are appearing on social media, on t-shirts and totes, as stickers, signs and more.  Since ICE is increasing their presence in Georgia, we should call on our state bird to let them know we do not support their cruelty and abuse.

Many of the images being shared are AI-generated images but artists of all levels are creating their own as well.   The images on this post are ones I found to represent Georgia.  The brown thrasher is our state bird.

Note:  The images and most of what I wrote is a combination of snippets from lots of the posts I have seen about this trend.  I no longer remember who said what so I can’t give credit.  Since all of what I found was shared publicly, I'm hoping they just want the message to get out there.

Call Senators NOW to Stop Funding for ICE

A funding bill needs to be voted on in the Senate by midnight Friday to avoid a partial government shutdown.  Included in the bill is funding for the Department of Homeland security, which funds ICE.  The House already passed it with 7 Democrats joining in to vote in favor.

There are other parts to the bill that could be separated from the DHS funding.  Republican senators are considering voting on the parts likely to pass and putting the DHS funding off.

Opinion:  The public needs to speak up loud and clear that DHS is not to be funded until there are big changes in their policies.  Also, Noem and Bovino and others who are telling major lies should be impeached.

Funding deal begins to unravel as Senate Democrats vow to oppose DHS bill over Alex Pretti shooting in Minnesota - PBS.  Democratic senators are vowing to oppose a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security following the shooting death of a 37-year-old Minnesota man, a stand that increases the prospect of a partial government shutdown by the end of the week.  "Democrats sought common sense reforms in the Department of Homeland Security spending bill, but because of Republicans' refusal to stand up to President Trump, the DHS bill is woefully inadequate to rein in the abuses of ICE," said Schumer, D-N.Y. "I will vote no."  Call him!!!

Washington Sen. Patty Murray, the top Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee and key negotiator on the funding package, had been pushing her colleagues to vote for the homeland security bill, arguing that Democrats had successfully fought off major increases to the ICE budget.

"Federal agents cannot murder people in broad daylight and face zero consequences."
But in the wake of the shooting, Murray said Sunday on X that "I will NOT support the DHS bill as it stands."   CALL HER TO MAKE SURE SHE DOESN'T CHANGE HER MIND!!!

Democrats vow to oppose homeland security funds after Minnesota shooting as shutdown risk grows - AP News.  Six of the 12 annual spending bills for the current budget year have been signed into law by President Donald Trump. Six more are awaiting action in the Senate, despite a revolt from House Democrats and mounting calls for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s impeachment.  Republicans will need some Democratic support to pass the remaining spending bills in time to avoid a partial shutdown. That support was already in question after Renee Good, a mother of three, was fatally shot and killed earlier this month by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis. But the fatal shooting Saturday of Alex Pretti, an intensive care unit nurse, quickly prompted Democrats to take a more forceful stand.

Democrats Vow Not to Fund ICE After Shooting, Imperiling Spending Deal - New York Times.  The rapidly escalating opposition to the measure, which includes $64.4 billion for the Department of Homeland Security, including $10 billion for ICE, amplified the likelihood of a partial government shutdown at the end of the month. The legislation requires the support of Democrats to muster the 60 votes needed to avoid a filibuster and advance in the Senate.  Recognizing the depth of Democratic outrage, Senate Republicans immediately began examining whether they could separate the homeland security funding from the rest of the package and preserve the bulk of what had been a bipartisan deal to fund a large chunk of the government. The measure also funds the Pentagon and State Department, as well as health, education, labor and transportation programs.

“I’m exploring all options,” said Senator Susan Collins, the Maine Republican who is the chairwoman of the Appropriations Committee, adding that she had been in touch with Senator John Thune, the South Dakota Republican and majority leader. “We have five other bills that are really vital, and I’m relatively confident they would pass.”   CALL THEM!

ICE Presence Increasing in Georgia

I received this message last night:
Just received notice that ICE has officially touched down in our region.
Here is what is known right now:
* Vehicle Alert: They’ve deployed 75 black Chevy Tahoes across the area. Keep your eyes peeled for these SUVs.
 * New Location: They’ve set up an office right in College Park.
No doubt those Tahoes are the ones from Hendrick Motorsports, so you may want to contact them as well.

Soon after, I saw verification from various sources and contacts, along with a number of new tips, including this one:

Two or three weeks ago, another source (a teacher in Sharpsburg) said several parents with children at her school had been picked up.  One was a mom with school age children and a 4 month old at home.  I have no way to verify this, but I also have no reason to doubt her word.

National attention on immigration enforcement reaches rural Georgia - MSN. "We're not seeing videos of people being taken in from gangs," Mecholsky pointed out. "We're seeing videos of people being taken from courtrooms, from churches, from their houses, from work, from school."  The concerns are especially pronounced in Georgia, where ICE activity is often less visible, particularly in rural areas where there are fewer cameras and fewer witnesses. Mecholsky stressed while some enforcement actions draw national attention, many others happen quietly, leaving families isolated and afraid to speak out.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of media on this yet.

A FEW NOTES that might help as you decide who to contact and what to say:
  • GA Attorney General Chris Carr, is running for governor.  He doesn't jive with all of trump's policies so maybe an onslaught of contacts will get his attention.
  • Senator Jon Ossoff is running for re-election.  He voted with Republicans for the Laken Riley Act, which many say helped ICE.  If he wants the Dems to be loyal to him, he needs to step up.

The 7 House Dems Who Voted to Approve ICE Funding

Seven House Democrats voted to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as part of a Homeland Security appropriations bill.   Their votes came despite significant opposition from many in their party who criticized ICE's actions.  There were other provisions in the bill and most of these Dems used that as their reason for caving.  But, the bottom line is, they did not stand up against an out-of-control ICE program.

Update!!!   "Donald Trump pardoned U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar on December 3, 2025, ending Cuellar's legal battles related to charges of bribery, money laundering, and conspiracy. Cuellar has maintained his innocence and plans to run for reelection as a Democrat despite Trump's criticism of his party loyalty."   I guess that explains his vote.

Trump pardons Texas Democratic Rep. Cuellar in federal bribery and conspiracy case - PBS.  Federal authorities had charged Cuellar and his wife with accepting thousands of dollars in exchange for the congressman advancing the interests of an Azerbaijan-controlled energy company and a bank in Mexico. Cuellar is accused of agreeing to influence legislation favorable to Azerbaijan and deliver a pro-Azerbaijan speech on the floor of the U.S. House.

That isn't all - Texas sheriff charged with fraud two months after Trump pardoned his brother - The Independent.   A Texas sheriff has been charged with fraud two months after President Donald Trump pardoned his brother, Democratic congressman Henry Cuellar – although the president later accused him of being disloyal.

Seven Democrats Just Voted to Approve ICE Funding: Full List - Newsweek. The Homeland Security bill passed by the House keeps ICE's annual funding from Congress roughly flat compared with last year. It also limits the authority of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to shift funds unilaterally and requires the department to provide monthly reports detailing how it plans to spend money from Trump's law. The bill includes $20 million for the purchase and operation of body cameras for ICE and CBP officers during immigration enforcement activities.

These Democrats voted for the DHS funding bill despite ICE furor - The Hill. The $64.4 billion bill, which includes roughly $10 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), passed the House by a vote of 220-207. All but one Republican, Rep. Thomas Massie (Ky.), voted for the measure.  The bill also provides billions of dollars in funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the U.S. Secret Service, the Disaster Relief Fund and other programs and agencies.

List Of Democrats Who Voted To Fund ICE After Minneapolis Shooting Of Renee Good - Times NowNews. The House also approved a larger funding package for other federal agencies to prevent a partial government shutdown.  Lawmakers added a change to the bill. It would remove a law that lets eight Republican senators sue the government over their phone records from the January 6 investigation. This change makes it harder for the Senate to approve the bill. The Senate must now decide whether to accept the change or risk a shutdown...   Many Democrats say the bill does not do enough to control ICE. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries voted against the bill. He said ICE is “out of control” and misuses taxpayer money.

Many Dems refuse to vote to fund ICE as US House passes 4 spending bills - Panhandle Post. The bill attempts to put guardrails around immigration enforcement by allocating $20 million for body cameras for ICE and CBP officers.
It also requires DHS to provide monthly updates on how the agency is spending the $190 billion it received from the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” the president’s signature tax and spending cuts package signed into law last summer.  “The issue is that ICE is terrorizing communities and attacking people, including U.S. citizens,” countered the top Democrat on the Rules Committee, Jim McGovern of Massachusetts. “This is an out-of-control agency at war with communities across the country and they don’t give a damn that you are a U.S. citizen.”

trump Writes Bizarre Note to Norway's Prime Minister

When this note first came out, most people thought it was a fake.  Nope.  It's real.  The text was forwarded by the White House National Security Council to ambassadors in Washington, and was clearly intended to be widely shared.

Source: Anne Telnaes

Text message from President Trump to Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Stoere,
January 18 at 4:15 pm Oslo time:

The bit-by-bit breakdown:

  • your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize - Norway's government is not in charge of issuing the Nobel Peace Prize.  An independent organization does that.
  • having stopped 8 Wars PLUS - No.  He has bombed 7 countries since taking office - Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
  • Denmark's "right of ownership", no written documents - Denmark has a well-established claim to Greenland, recognized by international law, dating back to the 18th century when it began administering the island. The U.S. also acknowledged Denmark's sovereignty over Greenland in the 1951 Defense of Greenland Agreement.  Additionally, the Permanent Court of International Justice ruled in 1933 that Denmark had effective control over Greenland, further solidifying its ownership.
  • Connecting the Nobel Peace Prize to Denmark - Norway and Denmark and two different countries.  Why punish Denmark and Greenland for a grievance he has with Norway?
  • I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding - He has taken direct action against NATO members and sided with autocrats over and over.  "He is trying to form his own “Board of Peace,” apparently to replace the United Nations. A draft charter for that institution gives Trump the presidency, the right to choose his successor, veto power over any actions, and control of the $1 billion fee permanent members are required to pay." - HCR

Side Note: Some are referring to trump's Board of Peace as BORED OF PEACE.

Trump’s Letter to Norway Should Be the Last Straw: Will Republicans in Congress ever step in?  By Anne Applebaum in The Atlantic.   "One could observe many things about this document. One is the childish grammar, including the strange capitalizations (“Complete and Total Control”). Another is the loose grasp of history. Donald Trump did not end eight wars. Greenland has been Danish territory for centuries. Its residents are Danish citizens who vote in Danish elections. There are many “written documents” establishing Danish sovereignty in Greenland, including some signed by the United States. In his second term, Trump has done nothing for NATO—an organization that the U.S. created and theoretically leads, and that has only ever been used in defense of American interests. If the European members of NATO have begun spending more on their own defense (budgets to which the U.S. never contributed), that’s because of the threat they feel from Russia."

Letters From an American, Jan 19, 2026 - Heather Cox Richardson - "In just a year since his second inauguration, Trump has torn apart the work that took almost a century of struggle and painstaking negotiations from the world’s best diplomats to build. Since World War II, generations of world leaders, often led by the United States, created an international order designed to prevent future world wars. They worked out rules to defend peoples and nations from the aggressions of neighboring countries, and tried to guarantee that global trade, bolstered by freedom of the seas, would create a rising standard of living that would weaken the ability of demagogues to create loyal followings."

WHO TO CONTACT

Once again, there's no perfect focus to target.  Lots of people need to hear from us!  trump is off his rocker.  Our allies are no longer our allies and he's cozied up to our foes, who can't be trusted.  He is putting the world on the brink of disaster.

Full text of d.j.t.'s note:

"Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a "right of ownership" anyway? There are no written documents, it's only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT"

ICE Kills Minneapolis Woman in Cold Blood

Yesterday, an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Nicole Good. She was shot in the head at point blank range.   She was 37.  "Good was a legal observer: a volunteer trained to observe police conduct in case of future legal action."  She was the mother of a 6 year old son.  (some early reports said it was a daughter.

Three videos taken at the scene show a maroon SUV perpendicular on a snowy street. A silver SUV driving up the street stops. Two officers wearing badges that say “police” and body armor get out of the vehicle and walk toward the maroon car.

One of them says, “Get out of the f*cking car,” and the other reaches through the open driver’s side window while trying to open the door. The driver backs up the vehicle, and straightens the wheel as if making a three-point turn. Then she starts slowly to accelerate along the street.

A third officer who has been standing on the side of the road pulls out a gun as the car is turning away. He shoots three times. The maroon car does not hit anyone as it rolls up the street, hitting another vehicle and then a utility pole. The shooter walks briskly away, apparently uninjured.

Seen in slow motion, a video shows the wheels of the maroon vehicle were fully turned away from the shooting officer, who made no effort to jump away, clearly suggesting he did not feel as if he were in danger. His first shot went through the windshield; the next two went through the driver’s side window as the car moved past him. An onlooker shouted “What the f*ck?!”
I recommend reading the rest of the article.  There are more details of the shooting and also important details about how DHS, noem, and trump are lying about the incident.

This article includes 2 videos from different people showing what actually happened at the scene.
Today, the Department of Homeland Security, on Twitter, claimed the woman “weaponized her vehicle” and attempted to run over ICE agents, forcing one officer to fire what DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin called “defensive shots.” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem went further, labeling the incident “an act of domestic terrorism” and asserting that agents were under attack.

But the available evidence contradicts that account.

Video of the shooting shows an ICE agent standing directly in front of the woman’s vehicle as she attempted to turn around. Instead of moving out of the way, the agent pressed his body against the car, leaned across the hood, and fired multiple shots at point-blank range.

Venezuela - Heather Cox Richardson

Like everyone else, I have been keeping up with the illegal attack on Venezuela.  I have started a number of posts, only to feel the story shift. Time is of the essence, so I will focus on a current take on the story and do as many of those posts as makes sense.

We shouldn't wait to start writing and calling.   We need to speak up before WWIII starts.

Today's Focus - Heather Cox Richardson

Even on days I am avoiding politics, I never miss reading Heather Cox Richardson's daily newsletter.
You can follow her on numerous outlets -

The post I'm focusing on is Letters From An American, Jan 6.  This links to her Substack post, which to me is the best place to read without annoying ads, etc.

I highly recommend you read her entire post, an historical summary of the what happened in the previous 24 hours, but here is what she wrote in the last half of the newsletter concerning Venezuela and other threats being discussed -

... And now, after destabilizing the country at home, he [trump] is working to destroy the rules-based international order that has stabilized the world since World War II. In addition to an illegal attack on Venezuela to extract Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, Trump is threatening Colombian president Gustavo Petro, saying “Cuba is ready to fall,” and warning Mexico to “get their act together.”
Although his sights are primarily on countries in the Western Hemisphere, Trump has also warned that if Iran starts “killing people like they have in the past, I think they’re going to get hit very hard by the United States.”
Trump has also threatened Greenland, which is a self-governing island that is part of Denmark, an ally in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. As NATO allies, Greenland and the U.S. have cooperated on defense for decades, so Trump’s declaration that the U.S. needs Greenland for national defense makes no sense.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in a statement Sunday: “The Kingdom of Denmark—and thus Greenland—is part of NATO and is therefore covered by the alliance’s security guarantee. We already have a defense agreement between the Kingdom and the United States today, which gives the United States wide access to Greenland. I would therefore strongly urge the United States to stop the threats against a historically close ally and against another country and another people who have said very clearly that they are not for sale,” she said.
On Monday, Fredriksen said: “If the United States chooses to attack another NATO country militarily, then everything stops. That is, including our NATO and thus the security that has been provided since the end of the Second World War.” Today, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Denmark issued a statement of support for Greenland, Denmark, and NATO.
In Venezuela, the U.S. took Maduro and Flores but rather than supporting the actual winner of the 2024 presidential election, Edmundo González, or opposition leader María Corina Machado, the administration left the Maduro government in place, led by former vice president Delcy Rodríguez.
María Luisa Paúl reported in the Washington Post today that in the hours since Maduro’s removal, the Venezuelan government has cracked down on those showing support for the U.S. operation. It detained at least 14 journalists, sent armed gangs into the capital, restricted protests, and arrested citizens who appeared to be “involved in promoting or supporting the armed attack by the United States of America.”
Machado said the government’s actions are “really alarming.”
Trump claims that the U.S. is “running” Venezuela, and he has dropped the pretense that he is concerned about drug traffickers or Maduro’s seizure of the presidency. Instead, he has made it clear that what he really wants is for the Venezuelan government to give him access to the country’s oil. In much the same way as he claims Democrats were responsible for January 6 because they honored the will of the voters and refused to give him the second term he wanted, Trump maintains that Venezuelans “stole” the American oil that sits under their own land.
Trump’s plan to tear up the rules-based international order and replace it with U.S. control over the Western Hemisphere will cost the world dearly, but using the U.S. military to threaten other countries and seize control of their resources does create big winners:
This evening, Trump’s social media account posted: “I am pleased to announce that the interim Authorities in Venezuela will be turning over between 30 and 50 MILLION Barrels of High Quality, Sanctioned Oil, to the United States of America. This Oil will be sold at its Market Price, and that money will be controlled by me, as President of the United States of America, to ensure it is used to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States! I have asked Energy Secretary Chris Wright to execute this plan, immediately. It will be taken by storage ships, and brought directly to unloading docks in the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter! DONALD J. TRUMP PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”

Georgia is an ICE Hot Spot

                The Issue -
Georgia is one of the worst states in terms of ICE detentions.

"Georgia saw the 4th most ICE arrests in 2025, according to data from the Deportation Data Project."

"Efforts to arrest and remove unauthorized immigrants appear most aggressive in Georgia and other southern states with Democratic-leaning cities, while deeply red, rural states are seeing less activity, according to an Axios analysis."

ICE Expands Partnerships in Georgia - College of Coastal Georgia
"ICE’s 287(g) program extends immigration law enforcement authority by delegating it to officers in state and local agencies."
"In March, Governor Kemp announced an expansion of Georgia’s partnership with ICE. The Georgia Department of Corrections has participated in the Jail Enforcement Model since 2020. The Georgia Department of Public Safety is now participating in the Task Force Model. Under the Task Force Model, all 1,100 Georgia Department of Public Safety officers are to be trained by ICE on immigration enforcement and will work collaboratively with ICE to enforce immigration law in the field."
"Detractors of the program raise concerns that the 287(g) program results in family separations, potential rifts between immigrant communities and law enforcement, and concerns about local tax dollars being squandered to support a federal program."

"Kemp revealed this week that Georgia would join the effort, saying 75 National Guard troops would undergo training in mid-September “and should be on duty shortly thereafter” to work at ICE facilities in Georgia. The governor’s announcement comes after ICE arrests have already surged by 367% in the state this year, with 4,500 illegal immigrants arrested in the state between Jan. 20 and July 31."

"Mario Guevara spent over 20 years covering the Latino community in Metro Atlanta. Last summer, he was arrested by Doraville police at a "No Kings" rally in DeKalb County and later turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, also known as ICE. Guevara spent more than 100 days in ICE custody before being deported to El Salvador."
One of the biggest questions right now centers on Social Circle, a small city of about 5,000 people located roughly 45 miles east of Atlanta... The draft proposal reportedly includes facilities that could hold between 5,000 and 10,000 people each... David Keener said the city did not receive any notice from the federal government before the report came out. "We do not have the water and sewer capacity," Keener said. "That's probably the biggest reason. And most people in town are opposed to this facility locating here.""

"A Georgia congressman is publicly urging federal immigration authorities to expand enforcement operations across the Atlanta metropolitan area, raising concerns about a potential increase in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity. If federal agencies respond to these requests, the result could be more workplace enforcement actions, home visits, and arrests involving non-citizens in the region."
Note: The Congressman is Buddy Carter of district 1 in Georgia (the Savannah/Bruswick area)

                 A SHORT MESSAGE FROM ME.

I've spent some time the last couple of weeks thinking about how I could do even better on this site.  Instead of reading a ton of articles and then spending way too long combining all the info into one post, I am putting links to pertinent articles with significant quotes from each.  The basic ideas will hopefully be obvious and you can go to any of the sources linked to see more.  I'm hoping this allows for more posts while still giving me time to have a life and recharge.

There is much to do this year.  I plan to be a thorn in the side to those who are doing harm and a cheerleader to those who are working hard to make our country a better place.  I am certain there will be some rough challenges, but I am far more prepared to push back this year than I was in 2025.  I'm not alone.  Many hands working together can make great changes.
