Mitch McConnell

Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell was admitted into a hospital on June 14.  Last week it was discovered McConnell was found "unconscious" and had CPR administered for potential "cardiac arrest."   His office is being very cagey about his condition.  They have not disclosed what prompted his hospitalization or what treatment he is receiving.  They've made vague comments saying he's receiving excellent care, he's continuing his recovery, he wouldn't be voting this week, and he continues to improve.

The Wife Flees

McConnell’s wife, former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, traveled to Beijing to meet with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng three days after McConnell’s hospitalization.  Some are saying she left in order to avoid a decision to pull the plug.

Claims He's Alive and Recovering

On June 15, Senate Majority Leader John Thune claimed he spoke to McConnell in the days after he was hospitalized and said he “sounded good.” “He wants to be back, but I’ll defer to his staff on when.” Mr. McConnell is “clearly dialed into what’s going on.”  “He’s following the stuff we’re doing this week up here. Very much so.”

Senate Republican Whip John Barrasso also said he spoke to McConnell. Barrasso said McConnell was "engaged" and eager to return to the Hill.

Also, Rep. Andy Barr, who is the running against Democratic nominee Charles Booker in the race the replace McConnell, told reporters June 20 that he’d exchanged text messages with McConnell, and said he was released from the hospital.

Yet he is apparently still in the hospital.

Claims He's Brain Dead

Laura Loomer is a bit of a nut, but sometimes she nails it and she does have sources inside the swamp.

Desirée Townsend (an independent journalist) has an EMS dispatch audio from when McConnell was found unconscious at his home, confirmed Loomer's statement saying she had heard “the same thing from my sources” for days and is now waiting at the hospital for when his family “eventually decides to move him off life support.”

People from both parties are demanding transparency.

“McConnell’s staff should produce proof of the senator’s condition one way or another right now,” - Matthew Boyle, Breitbart

“It’s really easy for Mitch McConnell’s team to prove he’s still alive and well. Just do a video from the hospital. Why won’t they do it?” - MAGA influencer Catturd (who has 4+ million followers on X)

Some have accused lawmakers of trying to hide McConnell’s condition from the public.  “Many of us aren’t speaking about Mitch McConnell’s condition because we know nothing about his condition.” - Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee

"Is McConnell alive and well? Is he awake and functional? Is he a vegetable? Either way I think they are trying to make sure we don't have the answer to that until August 3rd."  "If McConnell's condition is clearly unfit for office, they'd hide that to avoid being forced to submit a resignation letter until after that date," "So all they have to do is drag their feet until [the second Tuesday in August], then tell you that he didn't make it." - Adam Cochran, independent journalist

Kentuckians deserve to know “if our senator is alert, conscious, or capable of serving” and citing dispatch audio indicating first responders performed CPR for cardiac arrest at McConnell’s address. - Democratic Senate candidate Charles Booker

Why Might They Avoid Releasing Information

McConnell did not plan to run for re-election.  His term would end in January of 2027.  If McConnell were to resign or be found unable to continue serving before Aug. 3, Kentucky law would allow Gov. Andy Beshear to call a special election. After Aug. 3, a special election to replace McConnell and fill the remainder of his term would coincide with the general election in November.  Kentucky is one of five states that requires Senate vacancies to be filled only by special election.

Steve Bannon is saying the senator’s office is shielding his condition from the public to “avoid triggering a special election” that would allow outgoing Kentucky GOP Rep. Thomas Massie to run as an independent.

Thomas Massie is a Republican but has been a major MAGA critic and has not been afraid of criticizing trump.  He lost his House seat in May in the most expensive primary in United States history. Trump backed his challenger, Ed Gallrein, and both the GOP and pro-Israel lobbies poured millions into the race.

The Senate Appropriations Committee postponed a planned hearing late last month meant to advance four spending bills.  Republicans need his vote to overcome unanimous Democratic opposition on legislation. Senators are away from Washington on a scheduled holiday recess until July 13.

Other Lawmakers Who Didn't Resign When They Should Have

Representative Thomas H. Kean Jr., Republican, New Jersey - disappeared for 117 days and missed more than 100 votes in the House, before offering his constituents an explanation: that he was hospitalized to treat depression.

Kay Granger, Texas Republican - missed months of House votes and was found to be living in an independent living facility months before she was set to retire. She had been experiencing “dementia issues.”

Dianne Feinstein, Democratic senator, California - did not disclose several complications related to her hospitalization for shingles in 2023, including a case of encephalitis.
