The organizers of No Kings is promoting May Day Strong - A Day of Action.

What is May Day Strong?

From the May Day Strong site - "This May Day, It’s Workers Over Billionaires.  On May 1, 2026, workers, students, and families rally, march, and take action across the country to demand a nation that puts workers over billionaires, with many refusing business as usual through No School. No Work. No Shopping."
May Day Strong is a one day event.  It will be easy for me to participate.  I'm retired.  I don't need to worry about missing work or sending kids to school.  I can easily forego shopping.   Not everyone will be able to participate so easily.  The hope is, lots of people will do what they can.

May 1st falls on a Friday.  Even if you can't miss work or school, let's definitely not shop! Keep in mind, if you go out and spend like crazy the day before or after, it won't much matter.  Try to plan ahead so that businesses will feel a difference.

I plan to go beyond this one day event...

VOTING WITH YOUR WALLET is not new.  Especially in the last year, there have been calls for various boycotts and spending changes.  I've been working to be a more intentional shopper and truthfully, it's been complicated!  I'm not always successful at avoiding companies or brands that don't align with my priorities.  I'm not always up on which company is "good" and which is "bad", and it often seems most companies are a mix of good and bad.   Even when I feel strongly about avoiding a particular company, I've had to make exceptions. It's been hard keeping up with it all, but I am getting better.  If we all make the effort and continue to improve, over time our impact will become more and more significant.  When we impact the financial bottom line of a corporation, we get their attention.  Just ask Disney and Target.

Leading up to May Day, I plan to raise my bar on shopping intentionally.  I'm no expert, but I will share what I'm learning.

The companies supporting people or actions that are tearing down what we value should not benefit from our money.  It feels so much better to support companies trying to do the right thing.

Meanwhile, there are a couple of no-brainer changes we can all can make to our shopping habits...

The Easiest Tip of All - Buy Less

If you are lucky enough to have disposable income, maybe this is a time to NOT use that income to "feed the corporate beast".

Consumerism is rampant.  When we continue spending on things that are not really needs, even while corporations are price gouging, we are telling them that we will tolerate their overblown prices.  If we tolerate overblown prices, the companies will keep them high.

Remember, during Covid, prices went up due to supply chain disruptions.  Once the supply chain began working fine again, the prices did not come back down.  Companies knew we were still buying at the inflated prices and their profits were great.  They had no reason to lower prices.

When we tolerate price gouging, we make it harder for people whose budgets are strained to the point they have to make choices about things that are absolute necessities.

Bonus Move - If you have disposable income, consider making donations to organizations that help those in need!!!  Food pantries are struggling.  This page has loads of information on that - Food Insecurity Resources.

The Second Easiest Tip of All - Buy Secondhand

This is easy for me.  I've been on board with the whole Reduce-Reuse-Recycle trend for years and have particularly enjoyed the thrifting aspect of this.  Buying secondhand can sometimes be the smartest way to go.  Many older things were made better than their newer versions.

In January, 2025, the country's economy began to feel unstable.  I decided I would buy less and save more.   If I wanted something, I would consider secondhand when possible.  I have kept an ongoing list of things to watch for. When out running errands, I often swing by secondhand shops and see if I can find any of the items on my list.   I have been wildly successful. Almost all of my postcard art supplies were purchased secondhand.  It's amazing what people throw out.

Brian Jack Brags about Bringing Linda McMahon to Visit Coweta County

I have called and contacted Brian Jack (Republican US Congressman for Georgia District 3) enough that I am on his mailing list.  I received a flyer from him today and reading it nearly caused me to lose my lunch.

Front

Front - right side

Front - Left

Back

Back - Left

Notice - his flyer names NOTHING he has done for District 3 because he pretty much has done nothing.   "Oh vote for me!  I am friends with Linda McMahon! Also I like to entertain trump's friends."

Brian is seldom in town.  He doesn't do open town hall meetings but he does meet with groups of select republicans from time to time.  He apparently has no interest in meeting with his constituents and has even removed his name from his Newnan office doors.

Brian Jack's office is on the right - the mirrored door with no writing.

The trump friend
on this flyer that gets under my skin the most is Linda McMahon, trump's Secretary of Education.  Brian is so proud of his association with her that she is named 4x on this flyer.  FOUR TIMES!!!   Who is this flyer for?

Linda McMahon is unbelievably unqualified.  I am a retired teacher, so education is near and dear to my heart.  When she was appointed, I knew our country was in big trouble.  I remember a good many details about her, but I held my nose and researched her again to make sure I had everything straight.

The first thing that came up was the AI Search Assist.  AI doesn't even like her -

Linda McMahon is considered unqualified for the position of Secretary of Education due to her lack of significant experience in public education and her history of promoting policies that could harm public schools. Critics argue that her background as CEO of WWE and her agenda to privatize education make her an unsuitable choice for this critical role.
The NEA was appalled when she was appointed.  Top Three Reasons Linda McMahon Should Not Be Secretary of EducationMcMahon is not only unqualified to run the agency, she has spent years pushing policies that would defund and destroy public schools. ...  Like Betsy DeVos, McMahon has no significant background in public schools nor any understanding of what it takes to help every student thrive. She served one year on the Connecticut Board of Education after lying about having a degree in education. McMahon spent her career as CEO of WWE, an entertainment company that has been accused of shady business practices and the abusive treatment of employees.

Note:  "They" are promoting school Choice / Vouchers.  If you haven't looked into that, you might think it sounds like a good idea.  It's not.  Please do a little research.  It helps rich people and makes public education worse.  In case you haven't been paying attention, that seems to be their goal.  They want an uneducated and pliable work force.  That does not make for a great nation.  But it does help the rich get richer.

John Fetterman... MarkWayne Mullin's Friend

John Fetterman should not have a D next to his name.  He votes with Republicans over and over.

In his latest move, he voted with Republicans to advance the despicable Markwayne Mullin (Fetterman's friend) for head of Homeland Security.  His was the deciding vote.

Scoop: Dems plot Fetterman ouster - Axios (via Archive.com)

His constituents likely have Buyer's Remorse, but little can be done until the 2028 primaries.

Pro-War Fetterman with Bibi

So what are the options?  Who on the hill can do something about the Fetterman situation?

I have mostly ignored him up to now, understanding he could not be counted on and choosing to spend my time on other things, but it bothers me that he is still considered a Democrat.  Does he get any funding from the Democrats?  Does he get wined and dined in efforts to change his mind on key votes?  What perks does he have?  Is he given a seat at the table when plans are being discussed?  Surely,  he deserves nothing from Dems.  He messes up so many crucial votes.

Honestly, I am having a hard time figuring out who to contact about this, but I did come up with something.   Fetterman serves on 4 committees.  I'm writing the Ranking Members of these committees asking that they shun Fetterman and do anything they can to keep him away from important information and discussions.

Reminder - "Ranking Member" is what they call the minority party  (Democrat) leader of a committee.  Since Republicans are the current majority of the House and Senate, their committee leaders are referred to as the Chairman.

I'm also writing a few other Democrats to urge them to shun Fetterman.  The way that some Dems vote with Republicans on key votes over and over is very upsetting.  It definitely doesn't inspire Party confidence.  Whenever this happens, we need to speak up loudly.

Committees Fetterman is on

Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe

Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry
  • Subcommittee on Commodities, Derivatives, Risk Management, and Trade
  • Subcommittee on Food and Nutrition, Specialty Crops, Organics, and Research

Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation
  • Subcommittee on Aviation, Space, and Innovation
  • Subcommittee on Telecommunications and Media

Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs
(Gary Peters, Ranking Member)
  • Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations
  • Subcommittee on Border Management, Federal Workforce, and Regulatory Affairs (Ranking)

War and Peace

The issue...  the trump administration continues to start wars and threaten wars all over.  There are so many problems with this.

Congress is supposed to be the ones to make the call as to whether or not we engage in war.  trump ignored that law.  Congress is not taking a stand on this.

The wars he is started are without provocation.  National intelligence recently stated that Iran was not currently a threat.  Venezuela was not a threat.  Cuba, which he has begun threatening, is not a threat.  And don't forget all the countries he has threatened since he took office - Canada, Mexico, Greenland...  It's all madness.

The expense is exorbitant.  Billions!  And they are asking for more money.  Yet they don't seem to have enough money to fund programs that could actually help Americans.

The wars are destabilizing the world.  The Middle East is in chaos.  South America is on edge.  Europe is on high alert.  Our allies no longer trust us.  They are forming alliances with other countries and bypassing us. They are refusing to help in the war with Iran.   trump has cozied up to our former enemies, yet they are still working against us.  Russia is helping Iran in this latest war.

trump has no clear purpose for being at war with Iran, at least none that he has articulated to the public.  A number of possibilities have been stated by folks in his administration, but they vary so much that it is non-sensical.  He has no plan for how to end the war.

The people who were experts in fields that would be helpful now were fired a while back.

The minesweeper ships that have a long history of being battle tested were decommissioned in 2025.  They were replaced by ships that supposedly have minesweeping capabilities but have never been deployed in combat. (Trump pulled mine-sweepers from the Middle East and they’re sitting in Philadelphia as the Iran War rages - The Independent)

It's almost as if failure is the plan.

Timely Quotes...

We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children. - Jimmy Carter

War is sweet to those who have no experience of it. But the experienced man trembles exceedingly in his heart at its approach. - Pindar, the Greek

I know not with What weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.. - Albert Einstein

The grim fact is that we prepare for war like precocious giants, and for peace like retarded pygmies. - Lester B Pearson

The power elite are those who make the big decisions in the United States. They are the ones who decide when to go to war, and they are not the ones who fight it. - C Wright Mills

It doesn’t make a damned bit of difference who wins the war to someone who is dead. - Unknown

"War is a racket. It is conducted for the benefit of the few at the expense of the many, and the poor are the ones who pay the price. - Former US Major General Smedley Darlington Butler

Older men declare war. But it is the youth that must fight and die. - Herbert Hoover

Send Barron

People are tired of rich men starting wars and poor men being sent to fight them.  This is especially pertinent considering trump avoided the draft by saying he had bone spurs.   A trend has gone viral asking that trump send his son to fight in Iran.   Read More here - #SendBarron Trends As Internet Urges Donald Trump’s Son to Fight in Iran War - Yahoo News

Bonus

The sentiments of this song are as pertinent now as they were when John Fogerty penned them and his band, Creedance Clearwater Revival recorded them in 1969.

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
They're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief"
They point the cannon at you, Lord

It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one

Some folks are born, silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, yeah
But when the taxman comes to the door
The house look a like a rummage sale

It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no millionaire's son, no, no
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one

Yeah, some folks inherit star-spangled eyes
They send you down to war
And when you ask 'em, "How much should we give?"
They only answer, "More, more, more"

It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no military son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, one

It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one

trump's Boys Have to Wear Florsheim Shoes, Whether They Fit or Not.

This post is a fun one.  Instead of torturing the American people or other countries or groups he doesn't like, trump is torturing his own boot-lickers.

Here's a good explanation from Yahoo News

... the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump was guessing his allies’ foot size and then ordering them $145 Florsheim shoes they were subsequently too “afraid not to wear.”

“All the boys have them,” said one unnamed White House official, while another told the Journal, “It’s hysterical because everybody’s afraid not to wear them.”

According to the newspaper, “The president has taken to guessing people’s shoe size in front of them. He asks an aide to put in an order and, a week later, a brown Florsheim box arrives at the White House.”

From The Guardian -

Trump reportedly gifts cabinet members and White House visitors with Florsheim shoes.   Sitting behind the Resolute desk, Donald Trump fixed his gaze on JD Vance’s and Marco Rubio’s feet. “Marco, JD, you guys have s—y shoes,” said the US president, consulting a catalogue and asking their shoe size. Rubio said 11.5 and Vance 13. Trump leaned back in his chair and remarked: “You can tell a lot about a man by his shoe size.”

Trump’s shoe leather largesse will do little to dispel perceptions of his White House as a boys’ club. Research by the Brookings Institution found that his administration is the least diverse this century. In his first 300 days, the total share of women confirmed by the Senate was just 16%.

One cabinet member is said to have complained privately that the presidential gift forced him to retire his preferred Louis Vuitton shoes – though few appear willing to risk offending the boss by leaving the Florsheims unworn.

Rubio Bears the Brunt of the Humiliation

Not all of the shoes are a good fit for the recipients.  Some are too tight.  Some, like Marco Rubio's are way too big.  But they all wear them anyway.

From journalist Euan MacDonald - “Who buys shoes for other people? Mostly parents for their children.  Trump buying shoes for his cabinet is a way of belittling them and humiliating them. Rubio even has such a lack of dignity and self respect before Trump that he’s willing to humiliate himself by shuffling around in shoes that are too big for him.”

Florsheim is Suing Trump Over Tariffs - Does Trump Even Know This?

Wheyco Group, which owns Florsheim Shoes among others is suing the federal government over tariffs.

In its complaint, Weyco argues that the president exceeded his authority by imposing sweeping tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), and asks the court to declare those actions unlawful and order refunds with interest. The case also forms part of a broader wave of challenges brought by importers seeking to preserve their right to recover tariffs following Supreme
Court rulings limiting the use of IEEPA for trade measures.

Trump’s Weird Shoe Fetish Just Got Even More Embarrassing - Daily Beast -  Florsheim has been vocal about his opposition to the measures. “The idea behind the tariffs originally was pro-business, and it feels like somehow the pro-business part of this has gotten lost,” he told Spectrum News on Wednesday, claiming that at one point, he was paying more in tariffs than he was to actually produce shoes. “From a business planning standpoint, it’s been almost impossible.

Deyton Detention Facility + Geo Group

The Robert A. Deyton Detention Facility is an ICE detention center.  It is run FOR PROFIT by Geo Group, Inc.  BIG profits.  It looks like it would be pronounced DAY-ton, but apparently, the correct pronunciation is DEE-ton.

The main Deyton facility.

So much razor wire!

Location

Deyton is around 30 miles south of Atlanta. The address is shown online as Lovejoy (Clayton County) in some places and Hampton (Henry County) in others.  It's closest to Lovejoy and is in Clayton County, but just barely.  The Geo site uses the Lovejoy address, but most maps use the Hampton address.

Recap from Previous Posts about Geo-Group

I did a deep dive into Geo Group in July in this post - Folkston, Georgia Concentration Camp - Part 1 of 3, which I recommend reading since much of it still applies.  A few takeaways from that post and the two follow up posts -
  • Geo Group runs lots of for-profit ICE detention centers and have been awarded expansions even though they are accused of many violations.
  • Pam Bondi, the U.S. Attorney General, is a former GEO Group lobbyist.  ^%$#@!
  • Geo Group’s GPS tracking technology is also being heavily utilized by ICE to track down immigrants, making the company one of the “big business winners” of the Trump administration’s immigration policies, according to The New York Times.
  • Another big detention center concentration camp run by Geo Group is in Folkston, GA, near Savannah.  Folkston is in Buddy Carter's district and Buddy Carter is a very enthusiastic supporter of the detention facility.  Update: Buddy Carter is running for governor.  He is major MAGA and visited with trump very recently trying to get an endorsement.

Connections to Geo Group

In the post about the Folkston Detention Center, it points out that Pam Bondi, our infamous attorney general, was previously a lobbyist for Geo Group.  It turns out, she wasn't the only trump appointee associated with Geo Group.  Tom Homan, trump's "border czar" was, too.  Remember, Homan was the guy caught red-handed accepting a bribe ($50,000 bag of cash) in exchange for government contracts during an FBI sting, but the trump White House shut down the investigation.

Recent Death of Inmate at Deyton

Geo-Group has a long list of violations.  Just recently (January 14, 2026), detainee, Heber Sanchaz Domínguez died at Deyton.  He was 34 years old.  Advocates said his death is part of a troubling trend. He is the fifth person to die in ICE custody in the U.S. in the first 16 days of 2026.  (11 Alive News). He leaves behind a wife and two children, one of whom has Downs Syndrome.  There is an online fundraiser for his family.  There is also an online petition for the DHS Office of Inspector General, the ICE Office of Professional Responsibility, and the U.S. Congress to launch an immediate, independent investigation into the death of Heber Sanchez Domínguez.  We can demand that in post cards as well.

Heber Sanchaz Domínguez and his wife

Representative for GA District 13 (where Deyton is located)

David Scott is the representative for the Deyton Detention Facility location.  Again, just barely.  It's in Georgia District 13.  Scott is 80 years old - the oldest Democrat in Georgia’s congressional delegation. He has represented his district since 2003.  He was once considered a fine and popular representative but now, his age and health issues have affected his performance.  He has a very poor voting record. Scott did not vote in the last six, most municipal, elections, but the Georgia lawmaker missed voting in the 2024 presidential election and the most recent election on Nov. 4.  He is being challenged in the upcoming primary by a number of candidates, including State Rep. Jasmine Clark.

Tom Homan’s financial ties to private prison locking up immigrants raise questions - MS Now. "New disclosure forms revealed by The Washington Post show Trump's border czar was paid thousands of dollars by a company making money from deportations before he joined the administration...  So the order of events is as follows: Tom Homan and Pam Bondi consult and lobby for Geo Group, Geo Group helps elect Trump in 2024, Homan and Bondi join Trump’s administration in 2025, and then Trump’s administration helps Geo Group make profits. At a minimum, that raises questions about a conflict of interest.  But the White House says there’s nothing to see here."

At least three GEO executives-Matthew Albence, Daniel Bible, and Daniel Ragsdale-previously held senior ICE roles."  "Jason Houser, ICE chief of staff from 2021 to 2023, said the revolving door between private prison contractors and government immigration posts is well established. Deyton Detention Center Death: Get ICE out of Clayton County - All on Georgia "On Jan. 14, 2025, Heber Sanchaz Domínguez, a 34-year-old Mexican national, passed away while in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody at the Robert A. Deyton Detention Center. He was pronounced deceased at 3:09 a.m. EDT after being found unresponsive. The cause of death is currently under investigation.  It occurred under the watch of ICE and within a facility operated by the GEO Group, a private corporation that profits when bodies are filled and cells remain occupied. Chemical gas used in private Georgia jail. Judge reduces NC victim’s sentence - Charlotte Observer. "A guard at a private jail in Georgia threw a canister of yellow, chemical smoke at inmates — unprovoked — and left them bloodshot-eyed and faint without medical attention for up to two weeks, according to federal court documents filed in at least eight North Carolina cases."  "A chief officer “peered into the pod” and noticed those three inmates before saying: “I can’t stand North Carolina detainees. I got something for y’all.” Then she threw a “chemical gas canister” into the room. After what witnesses and victims described as an ambush, some inmates seized and passed out from the fumes. One lost consciousness and broke his nose. Most were confused. Several complaints, largely filed in Spanish, asked why they were locked up and bombed. “There was no bad behavior on our part, much less aggression,” one translated statement reads. “We only wanted to know why they were locking us… We are people not animals. With words we understand.”

Colbert and Talarico vs CBS, Brendan Carr and Bari Weiss

The issue -  CBS blocked Stephen Colbert from airing an interview with Texas state Representative James Talarico, who is running for the U.S. Senate.   The interview was later posted on YouTube, where it gained significant views, breaking a three-year record for Colbert's channel.

To truly see how this played out, I encourage you to watch these videos -

There has long been an exemption to the F.C.C.’s equal-time rule for “bona fide news” programming, such as evening news programs. Media companies have long taken it as a given that late-night shows qualified for the same exemption, particularly after the F.C.C. ruled in 2006 that interviews on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” were considered bona fide news.  After the F.C.C. issued its new guidance, Mr. Carr underscored that was no longer the case.  “For years, legacy TV networks assumed that their late-night & daytime talk shows qualify as ‘bona fide news’ programs — even when motivated by purely partisan political purposes,” he said on X last month. “Today, the F.C.C. reminded them of their obligation to provide all candidates with equal opportunities.” ~NYT

My question - Is Brendan Carr also going to go after fox news entertainment and other right wing media?

Interesting Side Note 1 - Brendan Carr was a PROJECT 2025 Author.

Interesting Side Note 2 - Anderson Cooper is leaving CBS "to spend more time with his family".  (Anderson Cooper says he’s exiting from ’60 Minutes,’ but staying with CNN - AP News). When asked if Weiss' appointment had anything to do with Cooper's decision to leave 60 Minutes, a rep for the journalist said he had no additional comment.

Colbert dismisses CBS statement on Talarico interview: ‘I’m just so surprised’ ~ The Hill. “They know damn well that every word of my script last night was approved by CBS lawyers, who, for the record, approve every script that goes on the air,” Colbert said during his show Tuesday evening.  Colbert told viewers on Monday that CBS, which is owned by Paramount, said he could not have Talarico on the broadcast over concerns about the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) “equal time” rule.
The rule requires broadcast stations to provide equal opportunities to opposing political candidates but has historically exempted talk shows.

What to know about the ‘equal time’ rule Stephen Colbert says led CBS to pull his Talarico interview - AP News. What about the Fairness Doctrine? Created by the FCC in 1949, this rule mandated that broadcasters present contrasting viewpoints when covering publicly important and controversial issues. Unlike the equal time provision of the Communications Act, this was an FCC rule, not a law.  It didn’t apply specifically to political candidates, but topics. The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the doctrine on a First Amendment challenge in 1969, with the court writing that the limited availability of broadcast spectrum justified regulation.  In 1987, the FCC repealed the rule, arguing that spectrum scarcity was no longer an issue, and then-President Ronald Reagan vetoed Congress’ attempt to codify it into law.

Colbert Says CBS Pulled Senate Candidate Interview - NYT. “Let’s just call this what it is,” Mr. Colbert said. “Donald Trump’s administration wants to silence anyone who says anything bad about Trump on TV because all Trump does is watch TV.”

Who is Bari Weiss? CBS News' new editor-in-chief is a vocal critic of legacy media - NPR. Previously, Weiss, along with her sister Suzy Weiss and her spouse Nellie Bowles, started The Free Press as a newsletter.  The Free Press developed into a full-fledged media company in 2022, expanding its offerings into podcasts and live events. Its investigations and commentaries largely scrutinize political and cultural issues like gender-affirming health care, COVID-19 lockdowns, DEI programs and J.K. Rowling's anti-trans views.

It seems that Brendan Carr only goes after liberal media.
He's the reason Colbert's contract won't be renewed
and he tried to get Kimmel fired as well.
